On the 1st of July, 2025, a young couple in Nittambuwa made a decision that most people would call reckless. They decided to build a business - not from a position of comfort, but from a burning belief that Sri Lanka's natural bounty was worth sharing with the world.
Maneesha Kaushani, a trained nurse who had built her career caring for others, put down her stethoscope. Not because she stopped caring - but because she found a different way to build something meaningful. She resigned. She committed. She went all in.
Behind her family's home in Nittambuwa, on a quiet piece of flat land in the Gampaha district, the first pineapple plants went in the ground. A small factory began to take shape - built with their own hands, funded from their own pockets, fuelled entirely by the refusal to settle.
Freshro was born - not from inherited wealth or venture capital - but from two people who simply refused to accept the life they were handed.
